Message From The Director The success of an interscholastic athletic program is a direct result of the commitment of a school district, the parents, community, and a committed athletic director. Running an athletic program is more than just having a strong background in sports, it is a commitment to achieving the best for those who are involved. I believe, that to demonstrate this commitment, one must develop and then demonstrate the following characteristics: honesty, loyalty, dedication, they must also be able to multi-task and be a good listener. Along with these characteristics, an athletic director must be able to communicate, be organized, be a stalwart leader, but most importantly an earnest strive to be successful is the key to be achieved. I believe that as an athletic director, one must truly be committed to the success of the programs that they are developing. As a committed athletic director, one then must be able to demonstrate an understanding of why individuals do that they do. Simply to be complacent and non-committal, striving for minimal effort is not only detrimental but also lacking in ones responsibilities for the betterment of ones fellow man. One does not become a leader by allowing others to do the work he or she is to do. Leaders are doers, and as an athletic director one must be able to do, not react. It is the responsibility then to make sure that each member of the “team” understands the goals and desires of the programs and to make sure that each goal is maintained. These goals will be attained through a structured, developed, and organized plan that will maximize the tools that are offered within the school district, the participants, and the community. People can expect as their Athletic Director, that I will not only work hard to make sure that each program is running as efficiently as it can, but someone who will have a strong understanding of all sports programs. The focus will be providing the student-athletes with an opportunity to be successful. This will be done by focusing on preparation and improvement, not solely on winning. With preparation and improvement as the focus, satisfaction comes from knowing the best effort was given. This will be done when all groups within the school district and community are working to achieve this goal. Communication with these groups is key and an expectation for success. As the Athletic Director for the Elizabethtown Area School District, my focus not only will be for success within the athletic programs, but for success within the community. I feel it is important to have the backing of those who are directly and indirectly involved, and to encourage, promote, and cheer for the student-athletes of the Elizabethtown Area School District.
